This course is designed to meet the needs of construction contractors, managers, supervisors and workers that oversee work and quality including liaising with clients in the construction industry. These persons will generally work for small to medium-sized building businesses, or are in the transition stage of seeking employment in construction that require licencing as per the requirements of State Regulators. It provides the knowledge and skills required to coordinate the overall construction of low rise buildings.The units out of this qualification are recognised by state builder regulators including Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC)

Upon enrolment, you will be provided with an RPL Evidence Application to complete in your own time, which will enable you to provide evidence of your experience. Once the RPL Evidence Application has been completed and submitted to the Registered Training Organisation (RTO), then an assessor will check your file and contact you to arrange an interview.

Evidence for RPL may include:

• Proven work experience
• Life experiences (including voluntary work and leisure pursuits)
• Previous study e.g. qualifications, industry training, professional development programs or units
• References from qualified tradespersons

During your interview you can explain the evidence provided and allow the assessor to question you on your knowledge, skill and experience. The assessor may also conduct site visits to confirm your level of knowledge and skill. If gaps in knowledge, skill or experience are identified, further training can be provided for you to obtain the qualification. The duration of this training is dependent on your individual circumstances.

• To enter the CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building), for RPL it is recommended that you have:

   

  • Have been employed in the general construction industry and have a minimum of four (4) years’ experience in residential and commercial applications to complete an RPL. 
  • Must be older than 18 years of age to enrol. A student younger would find it hard to have gained the level of knowledge and skills gained through life, work and study, that is required to meet the criteria of RPL

• Total number of units = Ten (10)

  • Nine (9) core units
  • One (1) other unit

  Core Units of Competency

  • ACPCCBC5001 Apply building codes and standards to the construction process for Type B construction projects
  • CPCCBC5004 Supervise and apply quality standards to the selection of building and construction materials
  • CPCCBC5005 Select and manage building and construction contractors
  • CPCCBC5006 Apply site surveys and set-out procedures to building projects up to three storeys
  • CPCCBC5018 Apply structural principles to the construction of buildings up to three storeys
  • CPCCBC5009 Identify services layout and connection methods for Type B and C constructions
  • CPCCBC5010 Manage construction work

This course provides a nationally recognised qualification, covering work in residential and commercial applications.

The course has core units of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry.

Licensing Requirements

This qualification is recognised by all state builder regulators including Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC)

If you are seeking licensing in other states check first their requirements. 

To work as a Builder or Contractor in Australia you must have a licence or be registered.

A licence or registration may require a combination of technical qualification, experience, skills and knowledge prior to application. One step in the process of gaining your licence or registration is to complete training which has been approved by the licensing body in your state.
